Thank you for visiting the Health and Safety Unit (previously OHS Unit) training webpage.  At UNSW we strive for excellence and here in the Health and Safety Unit we deliver learning and development training for specific hazards in the workplace in relation to NSW Legislation and UNSW procedures.

Mandatory OHS training for staff

OHS Induction - All staff (Organised by supervisor in local area)
On-line OHS Awareness - All staff (exemption casual staff working less than 7 hrs pw)
On-line Ergonomic - All staff (exemption casual staff working less than 7 hrs pw)
Manual Handling - All staff (mandatory when on-line course is released in June 12)
OHS for Supervisors - Managers, Supervisors and Heads of Schools
Officer Training - Executive Team
OHS consultation - OHS committee members
Senior First Aid - Appointed first aid officers
Warden training - Fire Wardens
 

Hazard Specific training

Laboratory Safety Awareness - All staff working in wet (chemical) and PC1 (low risk biological) laboratories
Hazardous substances - All staff working with hazardous substances
Biosafety for PC2 Laboratories - All staff working in PC2 labs
Gene Technology (Working with GMO's) - All staff working with genetically modified organisms
Ionising Radiation - All staff working with ionising radiation
 

Mandatory OHS training-Honours, ILP and Postgraduate STUDENTS

On-line OHS AwarenessPostgraduates with supervisory roles
Laboratory Safety Awareness for Students (includes Hazardous Substances training) 
- All honours, ILP and postgraduate students working in wet (chemical) and PC1 (low risk biological) laboratories
Biosafety for PC2 Laboratories - All honours, ILP and postgraduate students working in PC2 labs

STUDENT on-line Ergonomics course

 
On-line Ergonomic training via myUNSW (blackboard) is for STAFF ONLY.
If STUDENTS would like to undertake the on-line Ergonomic training please see the above link.  Note: Students will not receive a record of attendance to the on-line Ergonomic training.
 
 
 

OHS "Refresher" Training

OHS Awareness training: 3 years (unless there is a change in legislation).
Ergonomic: 3 years (unless there is a change in legislation).
